As a dedicated hairdresser you put your heart and soul and create stunning hairstyles. Leave your clients feeling confident and beautiful your autistic flair and commitment to your craft truly admirable but it's important to remember that taking care of yourself is just as vital as perfecting your skills we're going to dive deep into practical strategies that will help you maintain your physical well-being while pursuing your passion and the dynamic world of hairdressing This may seem like a boring topic to a lot of you however for you to succeed in a 30 to 40 maybe even longer year career in this industry it is vital that we do look after our bodies.

Alleviate aches and pains

Long hours on your fee and repetitive motions can take a toll on your body overtime neck and back pain strange shoulders and sore wrists are not uncommon among hairdressers top tips to alleviate these aches...

1. Stretch regularly- incorporate stretching into your daily routine to keep your muscles flexible and prevent stiffness. Try and stretch your spine out and your neck and roll your shoulders as often as you can.

2. Invest in ergonomics- consider economic tours and equipment that support proper posture and reduce strain. My favourite ergo hairbrushes that really help with my wrist when blow drying.

3. Practice proper lifting- use your legs lifting heavy objects to avoid straining your back. I know this one because this has happened to me far too many times and I can count once I learn how to lift properly it really helped.

Prioritise self-care

Just like you nurture your clients hair is essential to nurture your own well-being in an industry where we love to care for other people. We must fill our own cup to be able to pour our energy into our craft.

1. Stay hydrated - keep a water bottle nearby to stay hydrated throughout the day proper hydration supports overall health and keeps your energy levels up. It is okay to keep water bottle on your station or on your trolley. I love my Stanley!

2. Nourish your body, fill your body with nutritious meals and snacks to maintain energy and focus stop living off coffee.

3. Rest and recovery - ensure you get enough sleep to allow your body to recover from the demand of the day. My top tip is to meditate every night before you go to bed.

The best way to thrive in a very demanding industry

The hairdressing industry is very vibrant. It is very fast paced at times and it is important to find the ways to thrive without sacrificing your health.

1. Time management.- officially manage your time to reduce stress to create a better work life balance.

2. Delegate tasks- if possible delegate task that can be handled by others to free up your energy for your creative work I delegate the laundry to my husband and I hire a cleaner every week because it makes more sense for me to be earned in the money while somebody else has clean my house, cleaning my house does not earn me money so that is a task that always gets delegated .

3. Mindfulness practices- corporate mindfulness techniques such as deep breathing and meditation to manage stress and stay centred the easiest way I find to do this is to go onto YouTube and look up different techniques and meditations that are basic sessions and even meditation sessions that you can put on while you sleep that helps you go into a deeper sleep.

Remember your well-being is at the core of your ability to create amazing hairstyles and deliver exceptional service by prioritising self-care adapting your ergonomic practices and finding balance in your profession you're not own taking care of yourself but ensuring that you continue to shine brightly.

Embrace these health tips and watch how they positively impact both your career and your personal life as a thriving hairdresser. You deserve a life field of creativity, success, and a healthy worklife balance.
